Fermanagh Heritage Gateway

Enniskillen Castle, situated beside the River Erne in County Fermanagh, was built almost 600 years ago by the ruling Gaelic Maguires. The site - home to the Enniskillen Castle Museums - reopened in September 2016 following a £3.4m project to create a visitor centre and suite of new galleries which form the Fermanagh Heritage Gateway

Designmap were appointed in May 2014 as lead designers for the 5 gallery spaces, 2 temporary exhibition spaces, education and activity spaces, visitor centre, shop and café.

We were asked to create a cohesive interpretive experience across these diverse spaces and to provide a flexible display system that would enable the museum to rotate its collections and bring exciting loan objects, such as the medieval Maguire Chalice, home to Enniskillen.

In addition to our role as lead 3D designer we were appointed to design and deliver exhibition graphics, animated films, audio and digital interactives.

I have found Daniel and the other members of the Designmap team to be a pleasure to work with in terms of their creative and responsive approach to audiences, collections and interpretation.  In particular, Designmap developed inspiring and effective solutions to the use of space in the new and refurbished galleries.  The modular design approach employed has enabled enhanced access to collections and interpretive information both fulfilling and exceeding the initial client brief.
