Drawing
Drawing has remained central to Daniel Sutton’s practice throughout his career, from his undergraduate studies in Fine Art, early work as a mural painter, through to his current work in museum interpretation and exhibition design. Alongside commissioned drawing for museums, exhibitions and publications, he has developed an experimental drawing practice that explores the relationships between people, places, objects and structures.
Working through direct observation and memory, he uses drawing to explore how subjects are encountered, remembered and understood, rather than simply recording their appearance. Sketchbook studies and sustained studio works form part of a continuous process.
Drawing underpins Daniel’s approach to museum interpretation, informing the way he researches, observes and communicates through Designmap’s projects. While the independent drawings and commissioned work have different purposes and outcomes, they share the same belief in drawing as a way of thinking.

- RHS Hyde Hall Dry Garden
I'm delighted that Designmap has been appointed to develop the interpretation for the RHS Hyde Hall Dry Garden. The project includes around 30 original botanical drawings, developed specifically for the scheme.
