Following a competitive tender, Designmap was appointed by the British Museum to design Gladiators of Britain, a major touring exhibition developed with Colchester and Ipswich Museums. The exhibition reveals the brutality and spectacle of gladiatorial combat in Roman Britain through exceptional archaeology, including the Colchester Vase and the Hawkedon Helmet.
Designmap created a bold, illustration-led visual identity, all interpretation graphics, spatial layouts and bespoke showcase designs for four venues—Dorchester, Northampton, Chester and Carlisle. A flexible graphic system, immersive animations and robust family interactives ensured adaptability across sites while maintaining a strong core narrative. The exhibition has been widely praised for its clarity, atmosphere and family appeal.
