The trustees of Petersfield Museum purchased the redundant historic town police station. Their ambition was to expand the existing museum from the adjacent courthouse into the police station and develop the associated out-buildings and courtyard to create new gallery spaces and a hub for community cultural activity.
Designmap were commissioned to create an interpretative scheme combining the three core museum collections: local history, the Flora Twort art collection and the Bedales costume collection.
To support the physical displays, Designmap developed the graphic language for the whole museum and designed a series of audiovisual presentations to enhance the visitor experience.
In addition to redisplaying the collections, the project brief called for the museum and the surrounding area to be seen in the context of South Downs National Park and inspire visitors to explore the area after their visit.
